Technology for Teaching and Learning (TLL)

We are digital natives but we are not robotic educated.

This is my reflection for this course. Mr. Teguh, you know me so well that I’m not a typical girl who loves writing and blogging but now I wrote down for you, just because of you (read: only for get A). OK, do not take it seriously.

Well, I will recall what I’ve got from two sessions. Now just watch it, because I will told you about my previous experience. I had a precious moments with the technology especially computer. You guys, please answer my question HONESTLY. What  grade are you when got the ICT lesson? And I will answer it proudly: I got the ICT lesson since I still in 4th  grader of elementary school. Really cool, isn’t it? I had learnt about microsoft word, excel and painting. The amazing one is, at that time I did the “if” formula in excel, count the salary and etc., while in Microsoft word I typed some literatures like as in newspaper. When I was in 6th grade, my English teacher started to use computer as a tool for teaching the vocabulary by showed the pictures and the students have to answer it then typed it on the computer. It was really fun.  In high school, mostly I learnt software for accounting such as MYOB and accurate. Lucky I am my high school is international school so the techno-tools for teaching and learning are pretty complete. Even now, for the multimedia major every student got one laptop.

Thank you for reading a brief story about my experiences using techno. Well it’s my turn to summarize what I’ve got from two sessions.  The beginning of the TLL, Mr. Teguh told us about a brief history of technology which is concern about the language learning or called as CALL. What is CALL, is it a kind of cell phone? No, it was Computer Assisted Language Learning and it has 3 main stages. The first is behavioristic which is concern in accuracy through drill and practice, second is communication which is concern in fluency through communicative exercise and the last is integrative CALL which is concern in students’ role. Students are expected to be an agent of their study. This is what we used until today. The next step is discussed about the advantages and disadvantages from technology.

Technology, in this case CALL brings many advantages for education world especially for second language learner.  Students can study more independently and give them the options to work on their material 24 hours. How about your boyfriend, can he/she provided one day full for you? So, from now on, give more love to your gadget! Moreover, it provides a lot of fun games and communicative learning and of course it can enhance student motivation, and then look for the achievement I think it will be enhance too.  Well, let’s discuss about the advantages from CALL. First, computer cannot handle unexpected situations, second the benefits of computer technology for those who are not familiar with computer are inexistent, and the third some software for language learning are still under develop maybe still imperfect. Something new, fresh and sophisticated a.k.a technologies has taken the important role for language learning nowadays, but remember it was created and development by human so there was no perfect technology because we know that perfectness only God who has it. We are digital native but, we are not robotic oriented only can operated by machine and the commands. Remember, we are human are so special. We have our machine too (read: brain), we have a storage words also in our mental lexicon. We are the next generation of teacher needs the brilliant idea for our better edu-world. We need innovation that only comes up on our mind. Technology only tools to help us get easier for teaching and learning.
