# 2^nd Reflection of TLL

Sept, 28^th TLL class: everything was hot

Hot presentation.

Hot debate.

Hot issue of digital native vs. digital immigrant.

This reflection journal is created to check whether I was in class or not at that time.

If I not mistaken, first I have group presentation which is explore about the social network as media for language learning and teaching. Every group presented about the social network itself, told the advantages and also the advantages. This kind of interesting presentation because I can explore what we can do with all those stuff such as google, skype, blogger , youtube, even facebook also could be as our teaching aid for language learning.

Next activity, my class has debate, really hot debate and the motion was about the effectiveness of using language lab or using internet. If I were asked to decide which one more effective for teaching, I will answer it depends, like my friend always said a.k.a Martan. I do agree with him, because it depends from our perspective. Both of using language lab or using internet actually the effectiveness depends on the teachers’ creativity and the ability using media technology itself. The important thing is teacher’s role cannot be replaced by technology because we know that even technology cannot handle the unexpected situation.

And the last is digital native and digital immigrant. Well honestly, I did not really pay attention at this one because I was sleepy at that time. As I know, I and people who were born in 20^th century are classified as digital natives. I ever heard that digital native it could be like net generation or digital gen, so now on it’s called as digital natives. Meanwhile digital immigrants are people who were born before the technology developed. Digital natives have different pattern of thinking with digital immigrant. Commonly, digital natives are familiar with the technology since were born. Just look around you, and do a little observation, what usually children do in nowadays? Are they still holding a ball, doll, or toys? Maybe you will find mostly children will hold cell phone while using headset on their ear or maybe you will find children playing games on laptop or computer. Cool, right?
